Elizabeth (Betty) Daniels' Obituary
Daniels, Elizabeth(Betty) Campbell, nee Thomson, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. She was born to Scottish immigrants Alexander and Jeanie Thomson on December 20th, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended Simon Gratz High School, graduating class of 1946. She would then go on to meet and wed her husband, Erle, on March 29th, 1952. Mom and Dad had the opportunity through Dad’s job to live in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Dallas, Cincinnati, and Chicago. Mom was an exceptional home maker, self taught seamstress, knitter and crocheter. She also was an excellent cook and prepared many fabulous meals for family, friends as well as dad’s salesmen and customers. Her love of cooking was passed down to her children and grandchildren.Later in her adult life, after raising 4 children, mom made the decision(with dad’s encouragement) to follow her lifelong dream of earning a college degree. She attended the University of Cincinnati where she completed an Associates of Arts degree in 1975. From there mom attended Mundelein College in Chicago where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Teaching and English as a Second Language, graduating Cum Laude in 1978. Not yet finished with her education, she then attended Roosevelt University in Chicago to earn a Masters Degree in Education and Administration in 1982. Following her impressive time as a student, mom served the greater Chicago area as a bilingual English teacher for many years. Eventually, she and dad retired to South Padre Island, TX, where they were heavily involved with several charitable organizations within the community, education always at the forefront. Mom and dad celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage in 2017!When they weren’t traveling the world together or relaxing on the island, they enjoyed time spent with their children, six grandchildren and two great grandsons. Mom was a constant example of how valuable your personal time can be when it is spent helping others, and that it is never too late in life to achieve your goals and chase your dreams.
