Elizabeth Louise Dodd Scarborough's Obituary
Elizabeth Louise Dodd Scarborough, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on November 24, 2019.Beth was born in Santa Anna, Texas to her parents: James and Bessie Lock. She went to elementary school at the Baptist Academy in San Marcos, Texas and went to high school at Arlington Heights in Fort Worth, Texas. She, then, attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, Texas. Beth also attended college at Sul Ross in Alpine, Texas in 1951. She worked as a file clerk in a hospital in Fort Worth and also as a church secretary. She enjoyed writing poems and creating art which led to a career in art. Her favorite vacation place was the Colorado Mountains. Beth had many homes in Texas: Alpine, Ft. Worth, Richardson Weston, Collin County and in Hannibal, Missouri. Beth moved to Richardson, Texas where she lived most of her life. She worked for Margo’s La Mode and Colbert-Volk where she drew shoes and clothes which were shown in the two newspapers in Dallas during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Beth moved to Celina, Texas for twenty years before leaving for Hannibal, Missouri. She lived an exciting life and was blessed with an extended family.She is survived by her daughter, Jan Orendain (Sam) and her two sons; David Dodd (Babs) and Danny Dodd (Pandy) and her brother, Greg Lock and sister, Joyce Mott. Beth is also survived by her nieces: Becky Lozier (Jimmy) and Jamye Carrell (Stephen).Beth married Richard Carlton Dodd on June 26, 1948 in Ft. Worth, Texas until 1976 when he passed away at an early age in Richardson, Texas. She married Gerald Keith Scarborough where they lived on Delmont Street in Richardson, Texas and then moved to Celina, Texas. Beth moved to Alpine, Texas in the summer of 2009to finish her degree that was started long ago. She was seventy-nine years young when she graduated on August 8, 2009. Beth is the oldest graduate in Sul Ross’ history to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Some life changing moments were World War II when she was 13 years old in San Antonio, Texas. She had her own art gallery and taught art classes in Crane, Texas and was also a member of Mockingbird Poetry Society in McKinney, Texas. Beth enjoyed painting and drawing throughout her life.A Celebration of Life for Elizabeth “Beth” Scarborough will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 30, 2019 in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery.
