Elizabeth (Betty) Grayson's Obituary
Elizabeth Schloeman Grayson (Betty), 87, of Dallas, Texas went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday evening, October 2, 2012 after a long battle with lung disease, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years John C. Grayson (1997). Elizabeth is survived by her two sons, John L. Grayson (of Chandler, Arizona), Charles F. Grayson (of Murphy, Texas), and grandchildren Marlee and Samantha (of Chandler, Arizona), and Brian (of Murphy, Texas). Elizabeth was born on October 15, 1924 in Taylor, Texas and adopted at birth by Ora and Fred Schloeman of Gatesville, Texas where she grew up as a child. After graduating from Gatesville High School, Elizabeth attended Tarleton State University and, while serving as a community volunteer during World War II, met her future husband, John C. Grayson, of Waco, Texas who was serving in the Navy during the war. Elizabeth and John were married at First Baptist Church of Gatesville on June 19, 1948 and eventually settled in Waco where John attended Baylor University and served in the Naval Reserves. Several years after the birth of their children John (1961) and Charles (1965), husband John took a new job which brought the family to Dallas in 1970. During this time, Elizabeth was a full- time homemaker fully devoted to her family – a role she greatly cherished up through the time her children had grown up and left home. Prior to her diminished capacity due to illness, Elizabeth was an active member of First Christian Church of Carrollton where she served in her adult Sunday school class with husband John. Elizabeth was a loving mother, grandmother, and dedicated wife who invested her life in her husband and children. While she will be greatly missed here on earth, we have great joy knowing that she has now been made whole in the presence of Jesus. We love you Mom and Grammy! Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 12:30 PM in Restland Wildwood Chapel. Visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
