Elizabeth Hampton Jackson was born on August 1, 1928 to parents, Ellen H. Wilson and David Hampton, who both preceded her in death.A native of Louisiana, Elizabeth grew up in Dallas, Texas. Upon graduation from Booker T. Washington High School, she continued her education at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. She later received a Master of Education degree at Prairie View A&M University.Elizabeth was a dedicated teacher in the Dallas Independent School District for 34 years. Following her retirement, she worked as a part time instructor for the Dallas County Community College District.Elizabeth married Robert Samuel Jackson upon his return from active duty in the US Army. Together they raised their infant son, David Samuel Jackson. Robert and Elizabeth were pioneer members of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church. Elizabeth served as coordinator of the Older Adult Ministry, was a member of the United Methodist Women, Altar and Flower Guild, Greeting and Courtesy Council and participated in the Disciple Bible classes.Elizabeth was initiated into Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Wiley College, and later transferred to Alpha Xi Omega Chapter. In addition to the services rendered as an undergraduate, she served as Alpha Xi Omega Chapter’s 22nd President as well as numerous other leadership positions. In 1999, she was honored as a Golden member of the sorority. Elizabeth was exceedingly proud of her 71 years of dedicated service and continuous membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.Her civic and community involvement include unselfish volunteer service to several organizations. Among them were Maria Morgan YWCA, Black Dallas Remembered and the Boys and Girls Club of America. She was also a member of The Dallas Retired Teachers Association, the Washington-Lincoln National Alumni Association and the Wiley College Alumni Association.In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Bridge and was a 60-year member of the Diamond Bridge Club. Elizabeth will be remembered as a fun person full of life, who enjoyed her family and friends immensely.She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son, David Samuel Jackson; cousin, Gail Newton; nieces, O’Shelia Moore Brown, Tonya Collins Hill (Bernard), Williamena Collins Hollis (James); nephew, Cedric D. Collins (Carrie); numerous great nieces and nephews, former daughter- in-law, Dian Hopkins, and a host of other relatives, sorority sisters, and friends.
