Elizabeth "Betty" Lynne Canada's Obituary
CANADA, ELIZABETH “BETTY” LYNNE SMITH passed away peacefully on June 23, 2013. She is rejoicing with the saints as we rejoice with her! Betty was born on December 13, 1924 in Dallas, TX to Hoyt G. and Viola Smith. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1941. Following graduation, she pursued her passion for drawing by enrolling in a local art school. This led to a career in commercial art with Sangar-Harris Dept store and then The Dallas Times Herald. She met a handsome soldier, Wilson Canada, who would become the love of her life. They married on April 12, 1946. The following years brought two children and Betty devoted herself to taking care of her family and raising their children. Whether making a home or making friends, she helped create memories at their lives in Dallas, St. Louis, Little Rock and back to Dallas. She continued to delight in her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to being a homemaker, Betty was an accomplished and creative artist, painter, seamstress, cook and storyteller. She was also a longtime member of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Family and friends of Betty, Mom, and Grandbetty will remember her for her pure laughter, silliness and fun sense of humor. More importantly, we will remember her for her joy, trust and abiding faith in Jesus Christ her Savior. She showed us how to trust like a child while having childlike fun at the same time. Betty is survived by her daughter, Debi Beasley (husband Sam); her son, David Canada (wife Mary); grandchildren, Lauren Addison (husband Nathan), Ben Canada (wife Melanie), Sarah McIntyre (husband Geoff), Emily Canada, and her nine great grandchildren, Canyon and Boone Addison, Joshua and Samuel McIntyre and Madelyn, Jacob, Caleb, Abigail and Thomas Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Wilson Canada; her sister, Dorothy Coker and great grandson, Seth Canada. Special thanks to the staff, nurses and C.N.A.’s at Signature Pointe for their good care, kindness and compassion shown to Betty over the past years. Services will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2013 at 12:30 PM at the Restland Wildwood Chapel under the leadership of Rev. Charles Hebert, Pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, followed by a reception at the main building and interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors Friday, June 28, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Fund at www.als.org online.
