Her father, originally from Florida, was a descendant of Dr. Miller A. Henkel, an early settler and pioneer physician of Orange County, settled in Winter Park, Florida in 1882.Elizabeth graduated from Winter Park High School and continued her education at Florida State University graduating with a degree in Journalism in 1952. There she met her one true love and husband of 66 years. The first time Don walked Elizabeth home, he told her he intended to marry her. They wed March 21, 1953.Elizabeth became a graphic artist with the Air Force in 1953. As the couple left Florida, and moved to Dallas, Texas, Elizabeth continued to paint for many years, eventually becoming an award-winning Southwestern watercolor painter. Elizabeth won in three categories at her first showing.Nothing gave her more delight than her grandchildren. She devoted her life and time to nurturing, enjoying and contributing to their education, happiness and success. This, she felt, was her greatest achievement. She has given that pioneering and ambitious spirit to each of us. We look forward to being with her, in the life of the world to come.
