Dr. Elizabeth J Morgan's Obituary
Elizabeth Johnson Morgan (Meme) went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2015. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving and grateful family. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Darold H. Morgan of 68 years, her children and their spouses Tim and Jane Morgan of Dallas, Marshall and Debbie Morgan of Odessa, and Julie and Billy Reynolds of Celeste along with nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Elizabeth was born to George and Roma Johnson in Fort Worth on January 3, 1925 and grew up in Missouri and Illinois, graduating from the University of Southern Illinois. She returned to Fort Worth and completed a Master’s degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After marrying Darold in 1947, she taught school and was a devoted pastor’s wife, serving in churches in Texas and Alabama. She later completed a second Master’s degree and a PhD in English rhetoric from Texas Woman’s University and taught English at the University of Texas at Arlington before retiring and spending more time at her second home in her beloved Glorieta, New Mexico. Elizabeth was a gifted writer, teacher, gourmet cook, artist and master gardener. She loved to travel and traveled the world with Darold and friends and especially enjoyed spending time in Great Britain and New Mexico. Elizabeth loved God and possessed extraordinary spiritual insight and wisdom that enabled her to be a devoted follower of Christ for all of her 90 years. She never wavered in her faith and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Richardson, where she was the official church historian. She spent her life living and sharing her faith as a long-time Bible teacher, having team taught a Sunday School class with Darold for more than 35 years, and participated in mission ventures around the world. She loved her family and enjoyed all of the chaotic gatherings of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as quiet times with family and friends. Throughout her life, Elizabeth continued to grow in intellect and spiritual maturity and was loved and admired by all for her wisdom and steadfast faith. She will be missed by her family and her church. The family is deeply grateful for the dedicated care team, headed by daughter Julie Reynolds and including Allie Banda, Amanda Beck and Sandra Robles, who cared for Elizabeth during her final years. A visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, on Sunday evening, October 18, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Richardson on October 19 at 2:00 pm in Fellowship Hall following an interment service at Restland for family and friends at 11:00. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chapel Fund at First Baptist Church of Richardson, Hawaii Baptist Academy in Honolulu, or the Mission Dignity Program at GuideStone Financial Resources.
