Elizabeth S. Morrow's Obituary
Morrow, Elizabeth Ann Setzer, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018. She was born in Dallas, Texas on July 25, 1930, to Cora and Walter K. Setzer. She had one beloved sister, Helen S. Willbanks, who was 18 months older and her lifelong friend.Elizabeth spent her childhood in Dallas, Ft. Worth, and San Antonio, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1947. She attended SMU and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, graduating with a BS in Chemistry in 1951. Elizabeth and Helen were among the first female chemistry graduates at SMU. After graduation, she worked as a researcher in the Pharmacology Department at UT Southwestern Medical School.While working at the medical school, Elizabeth met the love of her life, Philip R. Morrow, MD on a blind date. They became engaged on their 10th date and had a wonderful marriage of 62 years. Motherhood was a joy for Elizabeth and she worked tirelessly to create a loving home for her four children. Some of the Joys of her life were her Christian faith, family, friends, tennis, and SMU. She was a season ticket holder for SMU football and basketball her entire adult life. Elizabeth had a gift for music and she pursued her talents in piano, dulcimer, and guitar and was a member of the Encore Choir at HPUMC. Elizabeth was a loyal member of Highland Park United Methodist Church for more than 70 years and she cherished her lifelong friends there in the Round Table Class. She was an active member, former officer, and enthusiastic supporter of the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance. ‘Honey’ was the perfect grandmother and was an active participant in her grandchildren’s lives, attending all performances, athletic games, and special occasions. She had many diverse interests such as volunteering at elementary schools, swimming, bridge, book club, hiking in Estes Park, CO, and baking. Friends and family savored her delicious pecan pies through.the years and requested them at all holiday gatherings. Elizabeth’s sparkling smile and friendly, charming personality made friends quickly. She was a bundle of energy who was always planning ahead and thinking of ways to care for and serve others. Elizabeth was smart, strong, and cheerful and will be missed immensely.She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, brother-in-law Otto L Willbanks, Jr., MD, her grandchildren Philip, Patrick, and Ben Britten, and their dad Robert Britten. She is survived by her children Helen Smith (Jeff), John Morrow (Julie), Mary Peisen (John), Paul Morrow (Laura Nell). She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeff Smith (Amanda), Andy Smith (Allie), Raymond Morrow (Maggie), Ellen Morrow, Stanton Morrow, Matthew Peisen, Katie Peisen, Austin, Emily & Mack Morrow, six great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews.A Memorial service will be held to honor Elizabeth’s life at 1 pm, Tues., May 1 at the Sanctuary, Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas.Elizabeth’s family is grateful for her caregivers at home and the special care of The Terrace at Presbyterian Village North.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to HPUMC in memory of Elizabeth to either the Tower Arts program or Haiti Partnership Missions, HPUMC, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas, 75205.
