Elizabeth Ann Soutter's Obituary
Elizabeth “Ann” Holbert Soutter, age 91, passed away in the Florida home of her daughter and son in law on July 6, 2022 while watching her favorite movies with family. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Edwin Soutter, her sister Natalie “Peggy” Wortham, and her brother Webb “Butch” Holbert.
Ann was born in Dallas, Texas in 1931 and attended Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, and Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. She attended North Texas State University for several years, where she was a member of a sorority and track queen for a time.
At 23, she married Gene Soutter, a Texas Aggie and Dallas native, and they stayed together until his death in 2015. For Ann, Dallas was the center of the universe, and she took pride that her husband and his family’s business (Trinity Brass & Copper Company) helped create the Reunion Tower landmark that changed the downtown Dallas skyline.
Ann cherished staying in touch with her many close friends. She was on numerous committees for Woodrow Wilson High School and in particular helped organize reunions that renewed connections for beloved high-school friends. She loved her church community and hosted regular bible studies in her home, and she especially treasured the warm relationships she found at the In His Steps class at Highland Park Methodist Church.
Ann is survived by her son Michael Soutter and daughter-in-law Leah Ingram Soutter; daughter, Dr. Leigh Soutter Russo and son-in-law Jack Russo; as well as her granddaughters Amanda Mueller, Laura Minter, and Sarah Richards; brother-In-law Thomas Soutter and sister-in-law Jacque Soutter; cousins Penny Holbert, Jenny Holbert and Honee Holbert Randall; nieces Suzi Gillen and Kelly Weigand; nephews Christopher Holbert and Kyle Wortham; and a number very close friends, especially Julie Sheerin, whom she considered a member of her family.
Always a lady, she kept her warm smile, positive attitude and sense of southern hospitality to the very end. Services will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Doors will open at 10:00 am for visitation before the 11:00 am service on Tuesday, July 19. All are welcome.
