Elizabeth Ann Storey's Obituary
Elizabeth Ann (Washburn) Storey, 83, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Elizabeth was born on March 25, 1933 in Bells, Texas to parents J.D. and Pearl Washburn. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ganelle McKinney, and husband William W. “Bill” Storey. She is survived by her son, Alan Storey; daughter-in-law, Stacy Storey; grandson, Benjamin Storey; and granddaughter, Anna Storey (all of Amsterdam, The Netherlands) as well as daughter Laura Starzer; son-in-law, Kenneth Starzer; and grandson, Holden Starzer (all of Carrollton, TX). She is also survived by her sister, Jean Ross; and brother-in-law, Don Ross of Denton, TX. Surviving nieces and nephews include Sandra Sutton, Gary McKinney, Greg McKinney, Wesley Ross, and David Ross, as well as several great- and great-great nieces and nephews. As a child, Elizabeth attended the First Baptist Church of Bells. After moving to Dallas to start her teaching career, she began attending the First Baptist Church of Dallas, where she met Bill Storey. Elizabeth and Bill married on June 29, 1962, and celebrated more that 53 years of marriage until Bill’s death earlier this year. They remained active church members at First Baptist Dallas, serving in the Pathfinders Bible class for more than 25 years. Elizabeth graduated from Bells High School in 1950. She graduated with a BA in business administration from North Texas State University (now UNT) in 1954 and then went on to earn her Masters of Business Education there in 1957. For many years, Elizabeth worked as a teacher for Dallas ISD, serving at Nancy Moseley Elementary, Pearl C. Anderson Middle School, and William M. Anderson Elementary. She later taught at First Baptist Academy. She retired from teaching in 1976 to become a stay-at-home mom. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, word puzzles of all kinds, and playing with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Dallas Life Foundation in order to assist the city’s homeless: www.dallaslife.org. Family will receive friends on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
