Ella Mae Harris' Obituary
Ella Mae Harris, 72, of Garland, Texas, died June 30, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on September 8, 1949, to Richard and Dorothy Harris in Caddo Mills, Texas. Ella moved to Garland as a young child and graduated from Garland High School.
Ella worked her entire career in the banking industry and was employed by Veritex Community Bank at the time of her death. She loved her work in loan operations and was surrounded there by a large group of friends and co-workers she considered her extended family.
Ella was an active member of Rodgers Baptist Church in Garland where she served for over 50 years in the children’s ministry. She faithfully taught children’s Sunday School and encouraged them all to answer when the Lord came knocking on their heart’s door. She loved the Lord and was faithful to pray for her family, extended family, and her church kids. Ella was a kind soul and always put the needs of others first. She loved to acknowledge birthdays and special occasions with a card, a note of encouragement, and oftentimes a cake or something else sweet.
Ella is survived by sister Vera Nell McElhaney and her husband Robert, sister Mary Travers, brother-in-law Joe Hawkins, sister-in-law Gloria Harris, 11 nieces and nephews, many other great and great-great nieces and nephews, and her canine companion, Tango. Ella is also survived by many close friends she considered to be part of her family from the banking community and Rodgers Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Wanda Smiley and husband Max, brother Larry Harris and wife Jo Ann, brother Robert Harris, sister Nancy Hawkins, and brother-in-law David Travers.
Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 10:00 am in the Memorial Chapel of Restland Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
