Ella V. Hunter's Obituary
Ella V. Hunter, affectionately known as Ms. Ella and Mother Hunter, was a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was baptized at Morningstar Baptist Church in Natchez, LA.
Later in life, she moved to Shreveport where she met and married Morris Hunter, Jr.
The family relocated to Texas in 1969 and joined Kaiser Street Missionary Baptist Church, where Ella remained a faithful and devoted member until her passing. She began her career at Kraft Foods in 1974 and retired in 1999 after a dedicated tenure of service.
Ella left an amazing legacy for her family. She taught her children to sing hymns and to pray as they bowed together around the bed each night. Ella had a servant's heart. Her home was a refuge for those who needed a meal, prayer, a word of encouragement, clothing, or good conversation. She shared what she had and always pointed people to Christ. Even as her body grew weak, she continued to share the good news with anyone who crossed her path.
Ella was the heartbeat of her neighborhood. Her passing is painful, but her legacy lives on — in the lives of her family, the many neighborhood children she never minded disciplining, and her many friends she remained close to for so many years. She was never more than a phone call away from any of us.
"She didn't just live among us; she looked after every one of us as if we were her own. We were all children of her village and we are better adults today because she had the strength to keep us in line and the heart to love us through it. Her guidance was a gift we didn't always realize we needed, but one we will cherish forever. She will be so deeply missed."
