Ella Sue Worm's Obituary
Ella Sue Metcalfe Worm of Garland, Texas passed away Wednesday 16 August 2017 at the age of 81. Ella Sue was born in Fort Worth Texas on 9 September 1935 to Charles B. and Mabel Frasier Metcalfe. Always athletic, she loved the water and was and excellent swimmer. She and her brother, “Snookie,” never missed a chance to water ski. Ella Sue graduated from Garland High School in 1954 where she held offices of Secretary and Vice President for FHA; was active in speech club, was on the student council and played varsity basketball. Ella Sue served on the GHS newspaper “Owls Eye,” first as Reporter, then Society Editor and in her senior year, Editor. Journalism was her real love and Ella had been accepted to what is now Texas Woman’s University. However, as she often said “life got in the way.” Ella Sue Metcalfe married LeRoy Worm on 18 December 1955 and was a proud mother to sons Fred Davis and John David Worm. She always supported her sons through little league sports and was active In PTA where she was a president at least once in each of the son’s elementary and middle schools. She also served on the board of the Garland PTA. In the Kennedy/Johnson era Ella Sue was active in the Garland Democratic Women’s Club where she held several offices, Including President. She Participated in an investment club for many years where “Smuckers,” the jam company, was her pet project. Following her husband and his career with General Dynamics and Texas Instruments, the family lived in Fort Worth, California and Wash DC. While in DC each family member had a responsibility for the entertainment of family and friends thai would visit. Hers was Williamsburg Virginia. She became so adapt that it was often said she could have easily been an official tour guide. Ella Sue has always had a cat or two. “Slsta” and “TG” will find it difficult to no longer have her loving attention. Above all, those who knew Ella Sue will attest to the fact that she loved to cook, was a strong supporter of the GHS class of ’54 and was always able to “Tell it like it is.” Ella Sue was proceeded in death by her parents, brother, Charles ‘Snookie” Metcalfe, half-sister Marjorie Shook and half-brother Glenn Shook. She is survived by her immediate family, husband LeRoy, son Fred (Betsy), son John and granddaughter Ava Johanna Worm. Also, sister-in-law Metcalfe, nephew Vandy, and many cousins and friends. Family requests donations be made to Garland Animal Services 600 Tower Street Garland, TX 75040. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017, from 5:00pm-7:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday, August 21, 2017, at 10:00 am in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
