Stella Walson
I met Ms. Ellen a little over two years ago when I was asked to fill in for a skilled nurse visit at her home. What I didn't tell them at the time was that another nurse was going to be assigned to take care of her. My first impression was that of warmth, smilles, grace and love. She was very welcoming, easy to talk to, and it seemed as if we had known each other for a while. I called my agency and told them I will take her on as my patient.
Initially, she was Ms. Ellen but as our relationship grew closer and we bonded, she became Mom. She shared stories of an adventurous life, and a doting family. Mom had a lot of love and more to spare - whether it was her beloved spouse, children, grand children, Lucky, her dog and neighbors.
In her final months, she displayed strength, quiet acceptance and dignity. Her memory never wavering, served her till the end.
For the much I know about her, she departed to be one of God's angels when she knew all will be well with her loved ones.
Mom, thank you for the lessons in quiet dignity, perseverance, love and grace. You will forever live in our hearts. Fondest regards,
Stella
