Ellen Lou Button's Obituary
Ellen Lou Button, 85, of McKinney, Texas, was called home to her eternal rest with God in heaven on May 28, 2025. Born on September 12, 1939, she was the cherished daughter of James and Gladys Radican in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the owners of Radican’s Carpet Shop in Tulsa.
A graduate of Roy Rogers High School in 1957, Ellen began her career at the Tulsa World newspaper, where her vibrant spirit shone. It was in Tulsa that she met Clair Jerome Button, the love of her life, who was a friend of her brother Ron through amateur radio. They were married in 1962 in Tulsa. After a short time in Biloxi, Mississippi, they moved to Plano, Texas, where Clair joined Collins Radio. After moving to Richardson they welcomed two sons, Eric in 1967 and Brian in 1968, where Ellen lived a life filled with love, creativity, and devotion to her family.
Ellen’s passions were many. She found solace in the pages of books, melodies of her piano, and expressed her creativity through countless arts and crafts. Her adventurous spirit took her and Clair around the world, creating cherished memories. At home, she lovingly cared for their many pets and, in later years, doted endlessly on her grandchildren, Jordan, Alexander, and Kaylee. Her nurturing heart extended beyond her family as she cared for children at the “Mother’s Day Out” program at First Baptist Church of Richardson and later worked for Hallmark Cards, spreading joy through her work.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Gladys Radican. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 63 years, Clair Jerome Button; her sons, Eric Button (Austin, TX) and Brian Button (Hillsborough, NC), and their partners, Emily and Kimberly; her beloved grandchildren, Jordan Button (Sherman, TX), Alexander Button (Carrboro, NC), and Kaylee Button (Hillsborough, NC); her brother, Ron Radican (Sacramento, CA); and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Ellen’s gentle spirit and boundless love touched all who knew her. She was known for her loving, gentle, and sweet spirit, and she greeted everyone she met with a warm, genuine smile. Her absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but her love will surround us forever. She has now found her homecoming in the arms of God, where she rests in eternal peace, her legacy of love enduring in the hearts of her family and many friends.
Visitation will be held at Restland on Friday, June 6th from 5:00 to 8:00. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 at Restland in Dallas on Saturday, June 7th with an interment following.
