Ellen Elizabeth Fong's Obituary
Fong, Ellen Elizabeth Farrar, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, August 18, 2022, in Garland, Texas. Born April 16, 1930, in Natchez, Mississippi, she married Stanford Fong in Portland, Arkansas, on April 9, 1948. At the time of their marriage, both of their families lived in Lake Village, Arkansas. She moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1948 to support her husband through Southern Methodist University. Ellen had a successful career for 30 years at Texas Instruments, retiring in 1990. She was a volunteer for many charitable organizations throughout her lifetime and served as vice president of the West Garland Neighborhood Association and was vice president emeritus until her death. As a couple, she and her husband were civic leaders in Garland and Dallas.
She is survived by daughters Louise (Frank) Sharp, Debbie (Dr. Jerry) Hopson, and Judy Fong; son Don (Paula) Fong, daughter-in-law Cynthia Fong; grandchildren Dr. Christina Montgomery, Nicole Robinson, Annette Lewis, James Sharp, Logan Sharp, Morgan Hopson, Wilson Fong and Claire Fong; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Stanford Fong; son Major Ronald Stanford Fong (U.S. Army Retired); her parents; step-father; and five siblings.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas, with Rev. Wally Butts officiating. Interment will follow at Restland’s Garden of Wisdom. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Restland from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 7502 North Garland Avenue, Garland, Texas 75044, or the North Texas Food Bank, 3677 Mapleshade Lane, Plano, Texas 75075.
