Ellen Lawther Pierce's Obituary
Pierce, Ellen Lawther, was born on May 24, 1928 in Dallas, Texas. She proudly lived in Dallas her whole life until she went into the Lord’s presence on January 27, 2011. Ellen started her education at University Park Elementary School and graduated from Highland Park H. S. in 1946. She furthered her education at Texas Women’s University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn V. Lawther and son-in-law, Ronald Sheckels. She is survived by her three red-headed daughters and their families: Betsy Sheckels of Detroit, Michigan and son, Graham and Clay; Lynn West and husband George of Dallas and sons, George, Jr., Charles, William and wife Katie, and John; and Patty Moody and husband Jim of Dallas and children, Jason and wife Karen, Adam, Christopher and wife Jessika Jackson, Zach, Keeley Chorn and husband David Miller, and Cameron Chorn Allison and husband Travis; and also by her brother Lynn Lawther; and nieces, Ann Ashe O’Dwyer and Cinday Custer. “Nonnie” was most proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was formerly married to Graham L, Pierce, Jr. She owned a business for thirty-six years, Needlework Patio in Snider Plaza, which started out as a hobby and became a love for needlepoint, cross-stitch and embroidery. Her store grew to be the oldest and largest of its kind in Dallas. Customer always came first; she spent hours teaching beginners and veterans new stitches. She served as President of The National Needlework Association and Chairman of PNA convention. She was a member of Craig Class Garden Study Club, James Campbell Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Her family thanks the staff at Stonebridge for their many years of loving care and Compassionate Hands Hospice for their dedication to her quality of life. A visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Restland Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 at Park Cities Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Park Cities Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
