Ellen Katherine Rust's Obituary
Ellen Katherine Rust, 94, of Richardson, TX, was born July 30, 1922 in Wichita Falls, TX, and passed away April 24, 2017, in Dallas, TX. Ellen graduated from Forest Avenue High School, Dallas, in 1941. She worked for 38 years as a bad check collector for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Ellen was a member of The Heights Baptist Church, Richardson, TX since 1968, participating in the widows group and Singing Saints. The church recognized her three times for having read the Bible cover-to-cover in one year. In addition to her church activities, Ellen was an active member of Widowed Persons Services for 26 years. She was known as a woman of great faith, hope, humor, and joy who loved her grandchildren and wanted to help others in any way she could. Ellen is survived by her daughter Barbara Rust Powers and son-in-law John Paul Powers of Garland, TX; grandson Michael Warren Powers and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Powers of Lewisville, TX; granddaughter Julia Elizabeth Powers of Durham, NC; grandson James Arthur Rust; and great-grandson Zachary Robert Rust. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Louis Napier Rust, her son Arthur Glenn Rust, her sister Betty Lou Brown Richardson, and her parents Cleta Lucile Post Brown and Arthur Francis Brown. Family visitation will be Wednesday, May 3, 6 – 8 p.m. and Memorial Service will be Thursday, May 4, 1:00 p.m., both at The Heights Baptist Church, 201 W. Renner Rd., Richardson, TX. Due to extreme allergies, the family will NOT accept ANY flowers. Memorials may be made to The Rust Powers Foundation, 106 Stone Mountain Ct., Garland, TX 75044. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75243.
