Ellis Lloyd Melvin, 89, of Garland, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland of Dallas, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243. His burial will take place at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.Ellis Melvin was born on August 25, 1930, to his loving parents Eolin and Alvin Melvin, in Tamaroa, Illinois. Ellis attended Southern Illinois University. Following his time at SIU, Ellis served in the army for many years as a Master Sergeant (MSG). He spoke 3 languages, Korean, Chinese, and English, and during his time in the army worked as an interrogator and interpreter, earning many decorations including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, 6 Good Conduct Medals, and many more. Following his time in the army, he lived in Tamaroa, Illinois with his wife Donna, whom he loved so much. They spent most of their life in Tamaroa, where he worked as security for 23 years at Decca/MCA/Universal records. After retirement, Ellis and Donna moved to Garland, Texas, to be closer to their family. Ellis is survived through his family, and will be missed.
