Elma Ann Daniel's Obituary
Elma Ann Daniel, 87, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2024, to be with the Lord.
Born on July 21, 1936, in Liverpool, New York, to Clayton and Anna Denick, Elma graduated from Liverpool High School in 1954. She earned her degree in education from the University of Albany in 1959 and later a Master’s Degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. Elma dedicated over 30 years to educating young minds in the Garland Independent School District.
A devoted member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church for more than 20 years and a founding member of South Garland Baptist Church, Elma embraced her faith after moving to Texas. She found joy in volunteering at the White Rock Center of Hope, painting ceramics, solving word search puzzles, spending time with loved ones, and traveling.
Elma was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She met her future husband, Irvin, in the summer of 1953 at the United Nations in New York City. After a four-year long-distance courtship filled with letters and plane trips between Texas and New York, they married on June 29, 1957 in Liverpool, New York.
Elma is preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Anna Denick, and her sisters Mary Wallbillich (husband, Andrew) and Betty Denick. She is survived by her husband, Irvin Daniel of Garland; daughters Barbara Cantrell (husband, Paul) of Waco and Vickie Sawyers Young (husband, Tom) of Coppell; grandsons Andrew Cantrell (wife, Shelby) of Waco and Luke Sawyers of Forney; great-granddaughter Taryn Cantrell of Waco; sister and brother-in-law, Lary and Sue Reed of Corsicana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and the Celebration of Life will be held at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, on May 22, 2024. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM, followed by the Celebration of Life at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 1:30 PM.
