Elmarine Burris' Obituary
Elmarine Burris was born July 27, 1936 to Colquitt and Thelma Henry on Bland Lake in San Augustine, Texas. She was the eldest of 3 children, one of whom preceded her in death (Dexter Henry). She attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated in 1954 and later went on to Texas Barber College. On June 23, 1954 she married Alvin L Burris., Sr. from Tom Oklahoma. To this union of 34 years were born 4 children. Mrs. Burris resided in the Hamilton Park Community for over 50 years. Mrs. Burris was successfully employed with JC Penney Corporation for over 35 years upon retiring as a tape librarian. Mrs. Burris was a loved and dedicated member of Carter Temple CME Church in West Dallas for over 50 years where she served diligently together with her husband on The Board of Evangelism Committee and The Board of Christian Education. She also with great works at her church, served on the Stewardess Board, and President for the Women’s Missionary Society for both Dallas and Ft. Worth District. Mrs. Burris along with her husband were also active as a team in prayer and witnessing within the community. Mrs. Burris leaves to mourn 4 devoted children, Alvin Jr., veteran in the U.S. Navy, Kevin of Corsicana, Texas, Jacqueline(Maurice) of Cedar Hill, Texas and Joseph of Dallas, Texas. Other survivors include a brother Colquitt Henry Jr of Dallas, Texas, 3 dear close cousins: Evelyn Holman, Lou Ann Scott and Mamie Washington of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Alvin III, Ian Frank of San Diego, Ca., Adreane Shannel, Anthony Winfrey II, Dallas, Texas and Benjamin A. Burris of Corsicana, Texas, Ronnie, Tryston, and Trynity Green of Cedar Hill, Texas; 3 great-grandchildren Abel and Aden Winfrey, and Malachi Jakes of Los Angeles, California and a hosts of loved nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Memorial Chapel. Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Memorial Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
