I have many fond memories of Brother Elmer! I got very acquainted with him in my journey with the committee on education with the grand Lodge of Texas. I shared many a meal with him and one of my fondest meals was meeting Elmer and Judy at a catfish restaurant in Athens, Texas.
He was a mentor for my daughter and helping her get into law school and giving her the confidence to continue on as a litigation attorney. He installed me as worse for master at chalk Mountain Lodge in Texas. He canceled me many times in life as well as masonry.
My life is so much richer because I had Elmer Murphey, lll be a part of my life.

This was Gov Rick Perry in 2004.
My first fondest memory was in 2005 when Elmer along with my Dad (Tom Guest) were visiting DC at the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction. I was the Junior Decapn at Annapolis 89. We had a scheduled meeting in Annapolis so I asked if my Dad could come visit. He did and brought along an entire Texas Delegation including SGIG Jack Hightower, Elmer, Bobby Glasgow, Brian Dodson, and many more around 15-20 in all. It was a great night in Annapolis.
My last fondest memory was the last couple of months when I had the pleasure of chatting with him about Dad. While visiting at the beginning of February 2026, I connected my Dad and Elmer and they had a great chat.
Elmer was a great man and an inspiration to the Guest family.
