Elodia L. Alaniz's Obituary
Elodia Lopez Alaniz passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 13, 2016, at her Garland, Texas home where she lived for more than 40 years. She battled cancer for more than five years before dying at the age of 90. She was born on May 16, 1925 to Bernarda Rivera and Dolores Lopez in the small farming town of Tyna, Texas near Corpus Christi. After completing a grade school education, she became a migrant farm worker, picking cotton and harvesting various crops throughout Texas. During this time Elodia met her future husband, Jose Alaniz, and they married in the early 1940s. She was widowed in 1954 and went on to raise 10 children – not including a daughter, Alicia, who died as an infant. She was a proud grandmother of 29, great-grandmother of 54, and great great-grandmother of 13. In addition to her children and grand children, she is survived by her sister, Esther Garcia Hernandez and brother, Marguerito Moreno. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Juanita Price; son, Oscar Vela; grandson, Samuel Gutierrez, Jr.; four sisters, Sophia Ramirez, Aurora Alfaro, Carolina Garcia, Rebecca Griffin; and a brother, Isaac Lopez. Visitation and viewing will take place on Thursday, March 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, also at Restland Memorial Chapel, with burial following at Restland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
