Elona Elizabeth Midkiff's Obituary
Elona Elizabeth Midkiff born June 13, 1940 in Dike, Texas to Elvis and Juanita Burkham. Elona is survived by her Daughter Gayle Tinsley and her husband Tim, and grandson Jacob. Brother Bill Burkham and his wife Dorothy and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother L.D Burkham, husband Jerry Midkiff and son Edward Midkiff. She lost her mother when she was 5 and at 21 she lived in a tuberculosis hospital for 9 months. She once told me as a kid, for Christmas one year she got one pair of panties…and that was all. She made sure that my brother and I never did without…we were her priority. She didn’t spend much time with friends or extended family. Her focus was us.I can her hear her say …YOU CAN WALK ALL OVER ME, BUT DON’T YOU MESS WITH MY KIDS.My mom and brother Edward were alike. They were not real social and outgoing until they warmed up and spent some time with that person. My dad and I though we never met a stranger. No matter what the story or advice she was giving, she managed to slip in a “well my daddy….” An Example of how much her family truly meant the world to her.…and many friends of mine and Edwards that are probably here today would tell you she was “like a mother to them” She was a “giver” loving and kind. She lost her husband Jerry in 1995 and then her son Edward in 2011 – and did everything to stay strong for me.Both her brothers L.D and Bill she loved very much. She didn’t get to spend as much time as she would have like too – but she loved them deeplyShe worked as an Electronic assembler at LTV for many years and other electronic businesses. Her last employment was Forney Engineering in Addison. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and reading. She really enjoyed going shopping with me..If I had a bad day or something wasn’t going right you could bet I was getting a new outfit, shoes to match etc. My dad kidded her that she would spend his life insurance money on shoes…Before my dad passed…they had bought a Fifth Wheel and were traveling. AS a kid we took a family vacation every year. My mom was in charge of the map. She knew every landmark in the country and had been there and could tell you what highway to take for you to go. She lived her whole life in the Dallas area and we would say she was a walking GPS…you’d never be lost if you could call her and ask her…”which way do I go”!!My mom cooked dinner every night..and we sat at the table together and ate. If we had fast food it was very few and far between and it was Church’s chicken.I loved my mom more than ANYONE ON THE PLANET. I AM AND WILL ALWAYS BE A MOMMA’S GIRL
