Elsie Elaine Allmon's Obituary
Elsie Elaine (Weber) Allmon, beloved mother, grandmother, parishioner, and friend, was called home to heaven on April 9, 2026, at the age of 95.
Elsie was born September 14, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest child of Henry and Emily Weber, who had emigrated from northeast Germany (Prussia), through Ellis Island, to a German Lutheran enclave in Chicago.
She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Chicago, a congregation of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod. She attended Christ Lutheran School and the Luther Institute, where her education was grounded in the faith that would sustain her throughout her life.
The Weber family primarily spoke German, but American-born Elsie and her two older brothers, Roland and Archie, were required to speak only English at home. Sadly, Emily died when Elsie was 7 years old, so she went to live with her godmother, “Aunt Margaret,” until her father remarried.
Elsie would often recall that, after the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States’ entry into World War II on the side of the Allies, she — attending a
Lutheran church and school where services were still conducted in German — faced difficult times as someone of German heritage.
After high school, she was employed as a bookkeeper by E. Edelmann Co., where a coworker introduced her to Frank Maxwell “Jack” Allmon, her future husband of 48 years. They were married on August 26, 1949 at Christ Lutheran Church. Together they made their home in Chicago and raised three sons: Steven, Richard, and Randell. Summers were highlighted by many family camping trips, usually "out west."
When daughters-in-law were added to the Allmon clan, two sons (Rick, and Steven with wife Janet) relocated to Dallas, Texas and one son (Randell with wife Phyllis) moved to Lakeland, Florida.
When granddaughter Stephanie was born in Dallas in 1976, Frank and Elsie went south, too, embracing with joy their new roles as “Grandma and Grandpa.” It was also at this time that Elsie joined Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, where Steven and Rick served as teachers in the day school.
Upon her retirement as head bookkeeper at Loehmann's Clothing Store, Elsie and Jack became avid RV campers, spending a significant portion of many years exploring the United States and Canada in their motorhome.
Elsie was widowed in 1997. In the years that followed, she embraced life with remarkable independence and curiosity, traveling the world with her sons on cruises and tours across Europe, Asia, and Australia. She took great joy in attending her grandchildren’s milestones, including college graduations and weddings.
In her advancing years, she moved from her longtime Lake Highlands home to CC Young, where she truly enjoyed being part of the friendly, active, and caring senior living community.
Until mid-January 2026, Elsie regularly attended worship at Zion Lutheran Church….8 AM service, third pew on the font side of the sanctuary. The clergy would leave the chancel to deliver the sacrament to her personally – her own
“Uber Eats Communion,” her family would joke. Elsie loved her church, its music, its school, its pastors and people.
She died peacefully just before sunrise on April 9 at her home at CC Young.
Elsie is survived by sons Steven Allmon and wife Janet of Dallas, and Richard Allmon of Hayden, Idaho; daughter-in-law Phyllis Allmon of Lakeland, Florida; and grandchildren Stephanie Merry and husband Michael of Fort Worth, Timothy Allmon of Fort Worth, Jonathan Allmon of The Colony, Julie Allmon of North Carolina, and David Allmon of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Allmon, and her son Randell Allmon.
We give thanks to God for Elsie’s long life, her steadfast faith, and her devotion to her family and her church, and we commend her to His everlasting care.
