Elsie Dee Hughes Muller's Obituary
MULLER, Elsie Dee Hughes Elsie Dee Hughes Muller beloved wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother, passed away of complications of heart disease on January 7, 2018 in Lewisville, Texas. Elsie was born on November 19, 1926 in Blair, Oklahoma to Mary Annies (nee Jones) and Oscar D. Hughes, who owned a farm in southwest Oklahoma. She enjoyed life in this small town with her two sisters, Thelma and Hildred, who doted on their little sister and filled the air with music as they sang three-part harmony. Graduating early from Blair High School at the age of 16, she entered college at the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she met her future husband, Harold H. “Rick” Muller, who was in the Naval ROTC Program. They married in October 1945 in Miami, Oklahoma; they made their homes in Galveston and Lufkin, Texas, then Tulsa, Oklahoma, then finally in Dallas, Texas, where they remained for the next 57 years. They celebrated their 61st anniversary before Rick died in August of 2007. A wise, insightful person, she made a profession out of her job as a mother, studying research on child-rearing and adding her own keen intuition to raising five independent, caring children. She shared her love of music with her husband who grew up playing the violin, and they nurtured this love of music in all of their children. In her later years, she enjoyed fitness and frequented the White Rock Athletic Club, where she was a dedicated 29-year member of the Fit for Life aerobics class. Her commitment to fitness served her even in her last few months; her occupational therapist called Elsie her “superstar” client until the end. Family and friends knew her as a kind and generous person, always showing genuine interest and regard for others. After Rick’s death, she continued to enjoy staying in close touch with her brothers-in-law, Wayne and Jim Muller. She is survived by her children: Dana Gail Muller of Tucson, AZ; Sally Muller Armstrong of Plano, TX; Joan Elaine Muller of Austin, TX; Patricia Muller Koran of Porter Ranch, CA; and Steve Muller of Coppell; two grandchildren Corey Alan Armstrong and Elizabeth Trixie Muller; two step granddaughters, Olivia Koran Dirro and Emily Koran Hamlet; and three step great grandchildren, Shelby and Camille Dirro and Callahan Hamlet; and many loving nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 2:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, preceded by visitation at 12:00 1:30 pm. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, P. O. Box 15186, Austin, TX 78761. Restland 469-925-1436 restlandfuneralhome.com
