Elwood Dale Davis born July 7, 1929 in Lumberton, NC and passed away March 10, 2016 in Richardson, TX. Preceded in Death by his parents, Ambrose & Florence Davis, sisters Wilma Rozier, Elizabeth Kinlaw, Theda Davis, and Natalie Leggett. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Luella Nowell Davis, daughters Marsha Claytor and Evelyn Law (husband Gary), son Terry Davis (wife Dena), granddaughters Shannon Roberts (husband Brian), Haven Claytor, Jordan Claytor, great granddaughter Lauren Roberts, sister Nella Weaver, and brothers Stacey Davis (wife Gracie) and Bruce Davis (wife Donna). Service to be held on March 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel at Heights Baptist Church, Richardson TX. Dr. Davis was an honor graduate of Campbell University (AA), Wake Forest University (BA), and The University of North Carolina (Med, DEd). He was awarded a Kellogg Scholarship award, State of N.C. grant and was a member of Epsilon Pi Eta, Phi Delta Kappa, National Association of Secondary School Principals, PDK Ministerial Honor Society. He published four-nine articles in national educational publications, three textbooks, and two books on religion. He worked for 36 years at Southern Methodist University where he retired in 1995. Prior to coming to Texas, he pastored three churches, taught school, served as a Principal and Basketball coach in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
