Her father died in 1937 after a long illness. Her mother Lorenza remarried Raul L. Hernández in 1940. Emma immediately became part of the new family as “Daddy Raul”, as he became affectionately known, loved her as his own.
Emma graduated from McAllen High School in 1950. She worked at various retail stores in downtown McAllen. After marrying Gregory F. Silguero, they moved to Houston. She got a job at the downtown Foleys Department store. Because of her affinity with the public, she excelled in the retail area as a beauty consultant with Estée Lauder products.
They returned to the Valley in 1974, where she worked for 4 years with Hidalgo County Action for Community Office and established many lasting friendships.
She then moved to Austin to open the new Foleys Estee Lauder counter at Highland Mall. Her career with Foleys Estée Lauder spanned 38 years where she was honored with an “Emma Day” in the store with Corporate Executives and a reception for her retirement.
Emma had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends wherever she went, including her loyal Estée Lauder customers.
In 2014, after Emma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she moved to Dallas to live with her daughter Corrine. Until her health condition made it impossible, she enjoyed oil painting, flower arranging, crossword puzzles, and trips to Las Vegas.
She was a loving, dedicated mother to Perry H. Silguero ( JoEllen) of Austin; Corrine Sue Silguero, of Garland, Tx.; Georgina L. Galvagni of Mesquite, Tx; and Charles R. Silguero, deceased. She especially loved her role as AMU to Joel A. Silguero (Cynthia) of Austin; Christopher C. Silguero( Betty), Blake W. Silguero, and Taylor C. Silguero, all of Cedar Park, Texas; Kristen P. Silguero of Dallas, Tx. and Aldo R. Galvagni of Charlotte, North Carolina. Five great-grandchildren- Austin, Lauren, Luke Silguero of Cedar Park, and Miles & Nicolas Silguero of Austin.
