Emily May Jackson's Obituary
Jackson, Emily May Tandy ~ born in Post, Texas on November 19, 1913, passed away peacefully February 19, 20 II at the Forum. Her parents were Walter Roger Tandy and Emily May Cunningham Tandy, She grew up in Abilene, Texas and graduated from Abilene High School in 1931. She decided to study ballet dancing under Kosloff, formerly with The Russian Imperial Ballet, who at that time had studios in Hollywood and Dallas. During this time, she danced at the 1932 Olympic Ball in Hollywood. Later Emily taught dancing in Abilene. She joined her mother and sister in Houston where she attended business college and obtained several executive secretarial jobs, the last of which was with Standard Oil of Texas. In 1939 she met Jay M. Jackson of Kansas City Missouri and they were married on February 17, 1940. Emily is survived by three sons, Jay Marion III and wife Jo-Ellen, Roger Tandy, and Thomas Frank and Betty Martin, four grandchildren, Laura Koupal, Kristy Jackson, Ellen Jackson, and Jay Marion IV; and two great grandchildren, Charlie and Jo-Ellen Koupal, nephew Rex and wife Maria Grey and their children Rebecca and Rex. She was predeceased by her husband, Jay, and her sister, Natalie Tandy Grey Armstrong. She worked for SMU for 20 years as Secretary to the Dean of Fine Arts. Emily and Jay were members since 1945 of St. Michaels and All Angels Church, and in her younger years she was very active in the church. Upon retiring, they spent many years exercising at the Park Cities YMCA and ballroom dancing. Emily and Jay lived for many years in Highland Park, and called The Forum at Park Lane home for the last 12 years. The family wishes to thank the management and staff for making their life pleasant and enjoyable all those years.
