Emma Elizabeth Ferguson's Obituary
Elizabeth was born July 2, 1928, in Henderson, TX, and entered Life Eternal on June 9, 2017, in Raleigh, NC, where she enjoyed her later retirement years, surrounded by her family. Liz is survived by her son Rex Ferguson and his wife Cindy, daughter Sandy Ferguson Copeland (all of Raleigh, NC), granddaughter Vicki Copeland, great granddaughter Stella Marcantel (both of Brooklyn, NY), and her baby sister Bobbie Floyd Meador (Dallas, TX). Liz is predeceased by her beloved husband Mac Ferguson (Jan. 2002, Grand Saline, TX), her brother James Floyd (Port Arthur, TX), and her parents Roy & Ola Sipes Floyd of Henderson, TX. In the late 1940’s, as the teenaged Mac joined the Air Force & prepared to serve his country on Wake Island just prior to the Korean War, he and his beloved childhood friend & sweetheart Liz married in Jan. 1948, and then Liz returned to Henderson High School to finish her education. Upon Mac’s return from national service, Liz & Mac settled initially in Tyler, TX and began their family life together, as Mac used his vast electronics training, gifts and talents, furthered during his time in the Air Force, to become a leader and innovator in the cable TV industry nation-wide, and eventually worldwide. Liz settled into family life raising her precious children, and was a doting mother and wife for most of her young adult years as the family moved around the nation building cable TV systems (the first of which was Tyler, TX). During her children’s teenage years, Liz became a valued volunteer caregiver (the famed Grey Ladies) at Abington Memorial Hospital near Philadelphia, PA, and then eventually continued her training & education to become a certified nurse aide, then an EMT & home healthcare worker, and finally in her 70’s pursued diligently & received her diploma to become a certified Activity Director at Henderson Memorial Hospital’s SNF unit (skilled nursing facility). After 25 years of continuous dedication and service to her patients in & through HMH, Liz retired at 80 years of age. She is survived and remembered with fondness and appreciation by many dear patients and their families whom she served tirelessly & faithfully throughout these special years. A memory quilt made by Activity Director Liz and her SNF patients and colleagues remains one of her most prized possessions and life treasures – a lasting symbol of her reverence for God, and her loving-kindness toward all, especially those in need. Liz was one of a kind, funny, sweet, smart, giving, determined, brave, and always ready to help anyone and everyone. An angel, for sure, and will be missed greatly, but remembered always. Graveside services for Elizabeth will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Restland Memorial Park in the Court of Freedom. Visitation is 1 hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
