Emma Lee Martin's Obituary
Emma Lee “Bunny” Martin, 91, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was born September 22, 1922, in Edmonds, ND, to John Will and Allie Lee Zinn Baston. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Opal, Hazel and Lillye. She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Martin and son, John G. Martin of Dallas; grandson, Scott Carpenter of Rowlett; nieces, Jonnie England of Dallas, Glynn Ann Ruggeri of Grand Rapids, MI, and Davidean Seibold of Bismarck, ND; nephew, Geary McCleery of Pingree, ND; and a host of friends. If anything defines Bunny Martin, it is simply, others first. No matter how difficult and demanding, she never failed to meet her responsibilities. Often, at great self-sacrifice, she always dealt with the needs of others and, always, put herself last. During the Second World War, she was Rosie the Riveter. She earned her degree at the University of Houston and, in the scope of her professional life and responsibility; she eventually became to Texas Instruments something like Radar O’Reilly, who unofficially ran the MASH 4077. Throughout her life, and right until the very end, suffering greatly, she struggled to protect us from the pain and helplessness that she knew would come with her loss. She gave us an extra year that she didn’t have. Now in heaven, she will be ordained to serve as the angel that she was in her life on earth. With typical humility, as commanded, she will, reluctantly, take her place on a throne among those who most, in all of human history, deserve to be there. “The Last Rose of Summer” By Thomas Moore ‘Tis the last rose of summer, Left blooming alone; All her lovely companions are faded and gone; No flow’r of her kindred, No rosebud is nigh To reflect back her blushes, Or give sigh for sigh. I’ll not leave thee, thou lone one, To pine on the stem; since the lovely are sleeping, Go, sleep thou with them; Thus kindly I scatter Thy leaves o’er the bed Where thy mates of the garden Lie senseless and dead. So soon may I follow, When friendships decay, And from love’s shining circle The gems drop away! When true hearts lie wither’d, And fond ones are flown, Oh! who would inhabit This bleak world alone? It is “Time to Say Goodbye” From a song by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli When I’m alone I dream of the horizon and words fail me. There is no light in a room where there is no sun, and there is no sun if you’re not here with me, with me. From every window unfurls my heart the heart that you have won Into me you’ve poured the light, the light that you found by the side of the road. Time to say goodbye. Places that I’ve never seen or experienced with you Now I shall, I’ll sail with you upon ships across the seas, seas that exist no more, it’s time to say goodbye. And try as we must, not until we are laid to rest with her, can we ever do it completely.
