(May 5, 1941-July 5, 2022)
Emma Bell Mayhew passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022 in her family’s home with her daughter, Hollie, by her side. On May 5, 1941, Bell was the first of three baby girls born to Harold and Nell Edge of Yale, Ok. She is survived by her daughter and son-n-law, Hollie and Wayne Dooley, two older sisters, Janine Sult and Darla Aymett, as well as her two twin sisters and best friends, Nell Blouin and Dell Gilley. In addition to her immediate family, Bell was a beloved aunt to her nephews and nieces being survived by five loving nephews, three nieces and their families by extension.
In Bell’s return home she is joining those who preceded her: Husband, William Joseph Mayhew; Parents, Harold and Nell Edge; Brother, Jerry Edge, as well as the many extended friends and family that have gone before her.
Born in the small town of Yale, Oklahoma, Bell grew up on the banks of the Cimarron River with her five siblings. As a young adult she moved to Still Water, Oklahoma to work in the school of vocational education at Oklahoma State University, a college she continued to root for until her passing. In 1971 Bell moved to Dallas, TX where she met Bill Mayhew, the man she would marry 5 years later on the 4th of July in 1976. Bill and Bell established their family home in Richardson, TX where their daughter, Hollie, was born in 1977 and resided there for twenty plus years. During that time Bell built her career with Texas Instruments retiring with over 20 years of service. In 2002 Bill and Bell moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas to enjoy their remaining time together in the natural beauty of the Ozarks. Bell enjoyed playing golf, pickle ball, and kayaking in the calm waters of Lake Desoto. Bell’s cousins, Lorna and Don VanMeter, resided as close neighbors to Bill and Bell during their golden years in Arkansas where together they hosted holiday gatherings and family reunions.
Bell’s crowning achievement in life was her dedication to family. As a devoted wife, loving mother, compassionate daughter and supportive sister; Bell served as a cornerstone of strength and love for her immediate and extended family. While Bell was accomplished in her career and in her contribution to her church and community, her greatest passion always revolved around her love for family. Bell’s absence has been felt by many, but her loving spirit remains in the hearts and minds of all who knew her.
