Emmie Jean Hogan Ray's Obituary
Ray, Emmie Jean Hogan was born on September 26, 1937 in Bastrop, Louisiana and passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harold Gene Ray; parents, Birdie and Lloyd Van Hogan; siblings, Jake Hogan, Varnis Orr Hardin, Floyie and Robert Hickman, all from Bastrop, Louisiana. Emmie grew up in Bastrop, LA where she met and married Harold Ray. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Garland, Texas where they made their home and raised their three daughters. After twenty-two years of service, Emmie retired from Garland Independent School District in 2001. In September of 2005, Emmie and Harold celebrated 50 years of marriage shortly before his death that following November. Emmie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin who enjoyed being around all of her family. She was a loving, kind and gentle lady who always found the good in others. Emmie was loved dearly by all who knew her. On Easter Sunday, April 20th and while surrounded by her loving family and in the comfort of her home, she went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She has received the promise inheritance that Jesus died to save us and she passed on Easter, the day our Lord and Savior has Risen…as he promised. Emmie is survived by her daughters, Ramona Ray Cartwright and husband, Phil, Denise Ray Nixon and Michelle Ray Dalton and husband, Grant and Jeannine Hickman Shepherd and Cheryl Orr Moreland who were like her daughters. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christina Stone, Matthew Stone, Melissa Oliver and husband, Mike, Lauren Nixon, Jacob Nixon, Tanner Gregory, Brittany Hankins and husband, Ross, and Mason McLaughlin; great grandchildren, Cole, Tyler, Caitlin and Shana Durst, Brielen, Brynnah and Braeden Stone, Caleb, Preston and Mikkie Oliver and Luke and Kaleigh Hankins; siblings Judy Marshall, Steve Hogan and David Hogan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
