Matthew had a very full life, which touched many people with his short time on this earth. He attended St. Mark’s School of Texas beginning in 2nd grade and graduated in May 2010. Matthew excelled in academics, arts and sports during his years at St. Mark’s. He was a true Marksman with the desire to help his community whenever possible. He was involved in every Habitat for Humanity build during his high school years. Matthew enjoyed playing both the violin and piano during his time at school. He competed in Volleyball beginning in 5th grade thru his senior year. He was a Varsity Starter in his Junior and Senior years and was extremely happy when the team won the SPC Championship his senior year. Baseball was Matthew’s passion! He began this journey in 1997 playing T-Ball. While he was with the St. Mark’s Pirates, they won the 2001 10U SVAA Championship. He thoroughly enjoyed this with his 3rd grade St. Mark’s teammates. He began playing select baseball with the Dallas Mustangs at the age of 12. The idea of service continued in college when he was accepted into the Trojan Knights, a service organization at USC. The Trojan Knights are founded on the principles of Brotherhood – which is very prevalent from the true friends he made during his time with the Trojan Knights. Philanthropy-again a core principle of Matthew’s life, to help others. Lastly – Spirit – Matthew enjoyed cheering on his USC Trojan football team. Matthew started his career to serve our country in the Navy during his senior year at USC when he was accepted into the Navy NUPOC Program to become a Submarine Warfare Office and concentrate on nuclear engineering. Upon completion of Officer Candidate School this summer, he was commissioned as an Ensign on August 29, 2014. He was currently stationed in Charleston, SC and attending Power School. Matthew was a diehard fan of the Texas Rangers, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and his USC Trojan Alma Mater! He enjoyed golf, hiking, listening to all types of music, and was beginning to run 5k events. He was currently training for a half-marathon later this month.
