Ernest "Griff" Mansfield's Obituary
Griff was born July 12, 1930 in Connecticut, son of the late “Ernie” and Vena (Lockwood) Mansfield. He entered into eternal peace March 11, 2016 in Medical City after a brief, but sudden illness. His wife, Chris was at his side. As high school sweethearts, they recently celebrated 60 wonderful years together. Griff was educated in the Danbury, CT school system, graduating from Danbury High School, Class of 1948. He graduated from Syracuse University “NY”. Griff retired as a full colonel (USAF) in 1974 after 22 years. Throughout his dedicated service to his country, he was a heroic though humble recipient of numerous wartime prestigious medals. He served as a fighter pilot both in Korea and 2 tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star. Griff will receive friends one hour prior to services which will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 3:30 pm with visitation 1 hour prior at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Griff will be laid to rest with deserved military honor immediately following. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated for donations in his honor/memory be made to the ASPCA of Dallas. My love, rest in peace-till we meet again.
