Ernest "Arley" Morrison's Obituary
Ernest “Arley” Morrison passed away surrounded by his family at age 74 after a brief illness. Born in Conway, Arkansas in 1943, Arley was born to Ernest Lee and Mildred May Morrison and joined his sisters Freeda and Barbara before his little sister Ann was born a few years later. As the only son, Arley was the apple of his mother’s eye and remained close to his parents until they passed away. The family moved to Dallas when Arley was nine and shortly thereafter, he started riding the church bus his father was driving to spend time with Judy May Austin who rode the bus to church every Sunday. They remained sweethearts through high school, married in 1960, and were married for 57 years. Their son Keith was born in 1961 and daughter Dana was born a few years later, making their family complete. Arley was always a hard worker and had his first job at age nine sweeping out bakery trucks. He committed his career to the grocery business and worked as a meat man for A&P, eventually ending his career at Minyard Food Stores where he was a Senior Vice President. In addition to the meat business, Arley had a great love of golf, and enjoyed playing in numerous Pro-Ams, with Keith as his caddy, and briefly on the Senior Tour during his retirement. At age 72, he shot a 72, showing that he still had the touch. But of all things that Arley valued, his grandkids take the prize. He enjoyed celebrating their birthdays, graduations and sporting events with them never missed a grandparent’s day at school, and loved the annual family vacation when everyone was together in the same house. While we are heartbroken at this loss, we know he is in a better place, and rejoice in knowing he has been reunited with his parents. We bet there is a card game going on in heaven right now with all of them. Arley is survived by his sweetheart, Judy, his sisters, Freeda Arnold and Ann Morrison, his kids, Keith (wife Jeanette), Dana (husband Todd Dillard), and his five grandchildren: Amanda Burchett (JP), Kasey Price (Matthew), Jacob Morrison, Loretta Dillard, Brandon Dillard, and his precious great grandchildren, Benson Arley Burchett (3), and Brody Burchett (1). Our dad was a very generous soul and was known to give you a hug, a pat on the back and, often times, would bring some donuts or candy to his doctor’s visits or to friends. He set the bar pretty high, but his family will try to live up to his kind spirit and loving nature as he continues to live on in us. Please join us in a celebration of his life on Sunday, September 17, 2017, with a family visitation at 2:00 pm to 3:00 PM followed by the service at 3:00 pm in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, a graveside service will follow.
