She taught Cosmetology at Skyline High School, Dallas Independent School District, for eighteen years. She was a member of numerous civic and professional organizations, namely, Good Street Baptist Church, Delta Sigma Theta Society, Inc., Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., American Association of University Women and volunteer and supporter of the African American Museum and Dallas Black Dance Theater. After retiring from Dallas ISD, Ethel became an entrepreneur and founded “Elegant Lady Cosmetic Boutique”, a couture line of women’s apparel. She leaves to mourn one brother and three sisters, Otis Clyde Phillips, Doris Appleberry, Willie Kelly, of Dallas, Texas, and Martha Wright of Garland, Texas; God daughter, Hella Mayberry. Special recognition to Gloria Hancock and Ida Brewer, nieces; and Billy W. Smith, nephew; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ethel was loved and will be missed dearly.
