Mrs. Ethel Alene Thomas' Obituary
THOMAS, ETHEL CHANEY was born January 5, 1921 in Wilson, OK and passed away July 29, 2007. Ethel graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas in 1938, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech and English from Texas Woman’s University (formerly Texas State College for Women) in 1942, a Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth in 1944, and a Master of Education from North Texas State University in 1962. Ethel married Fred Duncan Thomas on September 12, 1947. She taught in the Garland ISD from 1961 to 1986, mostly first grade, was an active member of First Baptist Church of Garland for many years and taught adult Sunday school. After retirement, Ethel enjoyed traveling, volunteering at Baylor Hospital of Garland and was active in Garland Retired Teachers, Kappa Psi, TWU former students and Lillialma Bradfield Story League. Ethel is survived by son, F. Duncan Thomas & wife Ginger; daughters, E. Carolyn Thomas and Sandra Stonebraker & husband Stoney; grandchildren, Greg Wacasey & wife Rachael, Andrew Thomas & wife Jamie, Bill Thomas, Kim Riggs & husband Matt, Michelle Wilson & husband Patrick, Jennifer Thorne, Casandra Wright & husband Jason, Stephanie Stonebraker, Courtney Stonebraker; great grandchildren, Tamara Riggs, Jordan Riggs, Caroline Thomas and Aden Wacasey. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Garland Chapel.
