Etta Hooker's Obituary
Etta Marie Hooker was born September 28, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas and passed away on February 7, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Etta was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Margarette Bartels, sisters Beatrice and Pearl, brother Henry, and son Donald Louis. She is survived by her husband Claude L., children Jack Hulen, Claude L. Jr., and Kenneth Lee. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1942 and was president of the Glee Club. While applying for a job as a key punch operator she met Second Lieutenant Claude Hooker, This resulted in a marriage in 1943 that lasted seventy-two years. Etta took up golf in 1954 while living in Japan and continued playing until 2010. While stationed in New York City in 1946, she joined her church choir and continued singing at Post Chapels and Methodist Church choirs until 1993. She is a lifetime member of the Stonesteppers Square Dance Club. She had a special love for cats. Services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church at 300 N. Galloway, Mesquite, TX 75149. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Generations Fund, First United Methodist Church.
