What a wonderful uncle (UNK) I had for so many years. "unk" has been my hero ever since he took me to an ice cream store in south Oklahoma City. I was probably 7 or 8 at the time. From the first moment we got out of Grandpa Castleberry's house Eugene made me feel like I was a man for the very first time. I'll always remember the times we spent together, but the most precious and special time was the very first one with my new "Unk". At the ice cream store we sat in the very front at a small table just across the counter. When I tried to spout out "my brand of ice-cream" to the waitress Eugene (my new found UNK) put his hand on my mouth and told the waitress "to give us MEN 2 beers". To say I was completely shocked would be putting it mildly. The waitress;looked a little startled, but I was on King's Row expecting my very first beer. When the waitress asked us what kind we wanted my UNK spouted out "ROOT" to my complete shock. WE all laughed and had our "Root" beer. No one will ever imagine how big of a man I felt on that day, but it was certainly a highlight to my first day of manhood. From that day I not only had an uncle but a hero for life. My UNK put himself to college as a petroleum engineer and became very successful. In fact, from those times I dedicated my life to going to OU, playing football, and becoming the 2nd college graduate in our family who majored in Petroleum Engineering. I would later find out that I wasn't nearly talented enough to play football at the University of Oklahoma so let football lead me to a lessor university where I would play. Never-the-less from that moment on I had a much needed role model and hero in my Uncle Eugene. What a man! What a friend! What a role model! I owe my "UNK" everything I'm made of and/or worth in my life. Thanks for the memories uncle Eugene. Betty and family our heartfelt condolences, sympathy, and love go out to all of you and all the many others whose's lives were touched my UNK. With Love, Ron, Marlene, Lisa & Brent, Scott, Cara, and Ally
