Eugene Edwin Soutter's Obituary
Eugene Edwin Soutter, of Dallas, TX, died comfortably in his sleep early morning on December 6, 2015. He was 85 years old. Gene is survived by his wife Ann Soutter (nee Holbert) and her sister Peggy Holbert Wortham; his brother Tom Soutter and Tom’s wife Jacque Tindall Soutter; his children, Michael Soutter of Dallas, TX and Leigh Soutter of San Francisco, CA; his two grandchildren Amanda Soutter Mueller and Laura Soutter Minter; step grandchild Sarah Richards; and his two great-grandchildren Kayla Grekstas and Peyton Minter. Gene was born on March 6, 1930 in Dallas (TX) to Burt and Dixie Soutter. He attended Highland Park schools and graduated from Texas A&M in 1952, the same year he married Ann. He and Ann traveled to Ohio during his time as a First Lt. In the United States Air Force. Otherwise they made their home in Dallas, loved it and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Gene and his brother Tom pursued the architectural metals business Trinity Brass and Copper Co., Inc. Their father founded Trinity Brass in the 1930s and made bells used in World War II. Once Gene and Tom joined the business it grew in size and scope. They consistently employed a staff of more than 100 workers and focused the business on Dallas commercial construction including projects for the Plaza of the Americas, the Dallas Galleria, and the Crescent. Perhaps the highlight of Gene’s career was the geodesic dome on Reunion Tower. In addition to his productive career, Gene enjoyed getting to know neighbors and participating in his community. Throughout his life he was active with choir and teaching in various churches, and he especially loved his family of friends at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Gene spent his last years at the retirement home Monticello West. The family gratefully acknowledges the staff for their excellent care of Gene and the way they let him know he was a valuable part of the day to day life there. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Restland Cemetary with a memorial service to follow at 1 pm at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Pastor John Fiedler will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gene’s life. Instead of flowers we suggest a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
