Eugenia Long's Obituary
Jean Long, dressed in her prettiest outfit, with her hair done and makeup on, danced her way into heaven this week. She died from liver disease on September 23, 2018. Eugenia “Jean” Brewer Long was born to parents Thelma Clayton “TC” and Sallie Era Brewer on May 20, 1936 in Monette, Arkansas trailing her twin sister and partner-in-mischief, Ginger. Jean and her brothers and sisters grew up in Arkansas, Wichita Falls, Irving and Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Crozier Technical High School in Dallas. Jean following tradition, married at the time when most young women her age get married. And while the marriage didn’t last, her devoted daughter Gaynel was born. Shortly after Gaynel’s birth Jean had to endure tragic loss when her first daughter Kathy died at 14 months old. In 1955 Jean met her future husband, Richard Henry Long, while out dancing with friends. They married on June 20, 1956 and twelve months later they welcomed son Paul Long into their home. Jean worked for a time at Texas Instruments but her true calling was in being a homemaker and a bright and bubbly friend to everyone she met. She and Richard raised their family in Mesquite and Carrollton, Texas and enjoyed their life together. Jean and her twin sister stayed close their whole life, and while they didn’t have a secret twin language, they did have the same not-so-secret nickname for each other- Dean. When her daughter Gaynel became a mother, Jean’s new role as “Nannie” was one she relished. She always doted on her grandchildren Sean and Aaron who just tickled her to pieces with their antics and endeavors. And then came her great-grandbabies. They were just possibly the best thing ever. Jean loved the first set of great-grandchildren Summer and Holden, followed ten years later by Lillo and Witten. Jean also loved her doggie Troubies and made sure he had plenty of miniature squeaky toys to play with. Unfortunately for Jean the career of “mystery shopper” wasn’t a thing until much later in her life. Because shopping was her specialty! She loved to shop. Anywhere and everywhere. She had a closet full of pretty clothes and every shade of lipstick on her dresser. A southern woman to the core, Jean wasn’t dressed until her lipstick and eyebrows were in place. She knew how to accessorize and loved anything sparkly to complement her outfits. Jean may not have been the world’s best cook, but she was the world’s best deviled egg maker. She loved desserts and sweets and when her health required her to have a more balanced diet, she found ways to fit some chocolate into her day. Jean kept sharp with working the New York Times crossword puzzle every day. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards. And shopping, of course. She knew how to sew and play the piano and never forgot a birthday. She loved, loved, loved her friends and she and her dear friend Lavelle spent many a day shopping for their side-by-side townhomes in Lewisville. They had a great ten year stint travelling, shopping, and socializing. She loved the Colorado mountains, Engelbert Humperdinck, and anything that sparkles. While Jean loved all these things, she loved her family with her whole heart. She leaves behind her twin Virginia Brewer (Judy Tate), daughter Gaynel Richie (Neelam Math), son Paul Long (Judy), grandsons Sean (Sherri) and Aaron (Katie) Richie, great-grandchildren Summer Richie, Holden Richie, Lillo Richie, and Witten Richie. Funeral services will be held in Dallas at Restland Memorial Park’s Wildwood Chapel on September 30, 2018 at 3pm, viewing at 2pm.
