Eugenia Phillips' Obituary
Phillips, Eugenia Maurine Hanson, of McKinney, Texas, was received into the loving arms of our precious Lord on September 15, 2012, with her family at her side. Hearing her favorite Psalms read and praise for her life, Maurine left this life with peace and dignity. Unshakable in her faith and courageous in her struggle with congestive heart failure, Maurine was an inspiration to those who came to know and love her. Born on December 14, 1922 in Athens, Texas, she is preceded in death by parents Howard & Kathreen (Harper) Garner, brothers Howard and Don Garner, sisters Sybil Hughes and Ruth Lord, and the love of her life, husband Philip Hanson. Also predeceased was husband Harrison Phillips. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law Carolyn & Frank Winscott of Rogers, Arkansas and daughters and sons-in-law Diane & Mac Eades of Sugar Land, and Linda & Lewis McLain of McKinney. Also left with wonderful memories are grandchildren Kenneth & DeAnne McLain of McKinney, and Jeff Mohle and Scott Eades of Houston. She was also beloved Nanny to great grandchildren Lindsey, Lillian and Anderson McLain of McKinney. Maurine’s long life includes active and faithful service and charter membership at Casa View UMC, Dallas; Trietsch Memorial UMC, Flower Mound; and most recent membership at Summerfield UMC, Longview. Maurine was a member of the church choir and United Methodist Women, as well as countless volunteer roles. Through her servant heart, she also served at Meals on Wheels and Asbury House. Maurine loved to be in the Word and enjoyed many years of Bible Study Fellowship. She was an avid reader and loved watching cooking shows. Her life was shared with her beloved pets – first dogs, then cats. She discovered a love of traveling with her family and enjoyed cities such as New York, Chicago and Las Vegas; cruises in the Caribbean and Atlantic took her to even more fun destinations. We are especially grateful to Belmont Home in Allen, for their continued skill and compassion. Maurine’s family and friends mourn her passing but rejoice in her Homecoming! We praise God for our incredible Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend. Services will be held at Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home on September 18, 2012 at 12:30 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral.
