Evelyn Chatfield's Obituary
Evelyn Chatfield, known as Evelyn, Evie B or Miss B among her many friends, died after a brief, intense fight with cancer on February 22, 2015. Evelyn was born on December 05, 1926 in Dallas, Texas, where she proudly lived her whole life. Her parents, George Alva and Jewell McPherson Chatfield, lived on Vanderbilt Ave and the neighborhood was the source of lifelong friends, who graduated with her from Woodrow Wilson High in 1944. Evelyn was first and foremost a friend-the kind of person who listens and goes out of her way to help, while remaining a loyal friend. Evelyn was good at school, and at both Stephens College (Columbia, Missouri) and the University of Texas she expanded her base of friends, graduating from UT in 1948 as a lifelong sister in Delta Gamma. After graduation, she joined Braniff Airways, which enabled her to travel the world. One of her passions was collecting good memories from her travels with good friends, which were Evelyn’s form of treasure. She decorated her home with the things that helped her remember these blessings. She further expanded her base of friends through bridge, birthday clubs and her neighbors. Another basis of friendship was Evelyn’s enjoyment of any sport involving a ball, particularly a football, she loved going to games with her friends. Later in life she watched the games on TV and the telephone enabled Evelyn and her friends to continue to enjoy the together. If you were Evelyn’s friend, your family came to be fond of her as well. Evelyn’s energy was also invested in volunteering, leading to her receiving the Sally Sutton Brice Volunteer Service Award from the American Foundation for the Blind in 2002 and the Cable Award of Delta Gamma in 2005. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, George Jr. She is survived by Linda Chatfield Barker (Dan) and Nancy Chatfield Martinez- George Jr’s daughters. The memory of Evelyn is a treasure held by her nieces and her many friends. For now, Evelyn is travelling with the friends who preceded her to the next travel adventure-where Evie B doesn’t have to cook. The memorial service for Evelyn will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Restland Memorial Chapel.
