Evelyn Nadine McDowell's Obituary
Evelyn Nadine McDowell, 86, formerly of Fairview, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in Plano, Texas. She was born on Wednesday, August 11, 1937, to her loving parents, John L. Ray and Nellie Ray in Farmersville, Texas.
She married Glen McDowell on June 13, 1959, in Friona, Texas. Evelyn had a lifetime passion for educating children. She taught public school for 25 years in the Garland Independent School District and 7 years in private school at Calvary Baptist Church in Garland Texas. She graduated from Friona High School in 1955, from Texas Tech University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, and from East Texas State in 1977 with a Master of Education.
She was a Charter Member of Calvary Baptist Church, of Garland, Texas in 1962 teaching Sunday School and was very active in her current church home of First Baptist Church Allen in its senior adult Bible Fellowship Group. She was a member of Allen Retired Educators Association (“AREA”) and the Texas Tech Alumni Association.
She is survived by her daughter; Rhonda McDowell Hill of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, son; Gordon R. McDowell and wife Lauren of Plano, Texas, grandson; Jack Hill, her brother; Charles Ray and wife Rose Ann of Friona, Texas, her sister-in-law; Kay Ray of Amarillo, Texas, and four nieces and one nephew. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years; Glen McDowell and her brother; Connie Ray of Amarillo, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Allen, located at 201 E. McDermott Dr., Allen, Texas 75002. Funeral arrangements for Evelyn McDowell have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
