Evelyn Osborn's Obituary
Christine Evelyn Osborn was born in Springfield, Missouri, to John and Elizabeth Thornhill. After graduating from Springfield High School, she attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College majoring in Business and graduating in June, 1940. Years later, Evelyn attended North Texas State University graduate school in Denton. Evelyn married William Guy Osborn in January, 1940, and, after teaching school for a short time, both joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was honorably discharged after the war as a Lt. j.g. After World War II, Evelyn and Guy lived on the east coast in their early years and moved to Dallas in July, 1955, joining First Presbyterian Church Dallas shortly thereafter. Evelyn taught Latin at E. H. Cary Jr. High and The Hockaday School for several years in the 1960s then went to work for Southwestern Bell/AT&T, retiring in 1992. Evelyn was preceded in death by husband Guy in June, 1970. She is survived by son Dave Osborn (Marilyn), Harlingen, Texas, daughter Janie Walenta (Ron), Quitman, Texas, granddaughter Jaime Osborn, Humble, Texas, grandson Matthew Osborn (Dara), Spring, Texas, and great‐grandson Joshua Osborn. She also leaves behind her beloved Siamese cat, Simon. Evelyn was a long‐time, devoted member of First Presbyterian Church Dallas, the Allman Class, FPC Presbyterian Women, and Bayview Century Club. Special thanks to her FPC Circle of Friends. Evelyn was a sweet lady and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Memorials in Evelyn’s name may be given to the SPCA, FPC Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
