Evelyn Mary Patterson's Obituary
Evelyn Mary Patterson, 88, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. She was born August 23, 1926, in Hubbard, Ohio, and was a daughter of John and Mary Kostow Fecych. Growing up, she lived and worked on the family dairy farm in Hubbard, and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1944, where she was nicknamed “Fish” for her swimming ability. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Texas, where she met and married the love of her life, Lloyd Bale Patterson. They were married in 1951, and moved to San Antonio where they enjoyed playing golf, dancing, traveling, and just sharing life together. In 1967, they moved to Dallas where they started into the laundry and dry cleaning business and worked together every day until they retired in 1986. During that time, one of the key accounts was the Dallas Cowboys, for whom then took care of all of the game uniforms and practice gear. The “Tom Landry” Cowboys became an integral part of her life, and she was a Cowboy fan to the end. She and her family were also founding members of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in 1967, and it became her second home, particularly after her husband passed away in 1989. She was a fixture in the Altar Guild and the Elaine Kadane Food Pantry, selflessly and joyously giving her time for something she truly loved to do. She was known for her smile, her “Ohio farm girl” work ethic, and her amazing sense of giving and serving others. She was also the beloved “Aunt Evelyn” to her nieces and nephews, sending a constant stream of thoughtful gifts and notes, and never missing a birthday or anniversary date. In her home, she was surrounded by many reminders and memories of her beloved husband, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, her Ohio farm girl roots with her Holstein cow figurines, her favorite sunflowers, her Dallas Cowboys, and her angels, which represented her deep and abiding faith. She was also the matriarch of her neighborhood, always willing to lend a helping hand to her neighbors, giving a treat or word of encouragement to their children, and ensuring that everything was neat and in its place. She lived in her home independently until her passing, with her son Scott’s help as needed. She leaves two sons, Jeff, and wife Connie, of Galveston, Texas, and Scott, and wife Michele, of Richardson, Tx, 5 grandchildren, Brent, Kevin, Joe, Pamela, and Kate, and 3 great-grandchildren, James, Lauren, and Aaron.. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two brothers, Julian and Bill, and her sister, Julie Fricker. The visitation for Evelyn Patterson will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Evelyn will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at The Episcopal Church of The Ascension. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, please honor her with a donation to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension for either the Altar Guild or Food Pantry.
