Evelyn Marcel Rush's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beautiful and loving mother, Evelyn Marcel Key Martin Rush, grew weary after 88 years of a full life and thus, entered into rest Monday, October 15, 2012, at approximately 9:30 p.m. at Canton Oaks Nursing facility in Canton, Texas. Evelyn, the youngest of four children, was born to Ernest and Stella Bloomer Key, April 18, 1924 in Arkinda, Arkansas. She attended school in Winthrop, Arkansas, after which she married H. C. Martin. To this union 3 children were born. Evelyn was successful in the restaurant business for many years, owning and operating “Martin’s Drive-in Restaurant” located in Horatio, Arkansas. Afterwards, she worked for the De Queen, Arkansas, Mountainaire Poultry Plant as a USDA Grader. Later, she moved to Texarkana and returned to the restaurant business. After a couple of years, she met and married the love of her life, William (Bill) S. Rush. She and Bill moved to Garland, Texas, where she was employed as a Laboratory Technician for Desoto Paint Company. Evelyn retired from DeSoto Paint April 30, 1986. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Hooks Chapter #1031 and King Ryder Church of Christ. She loved to travel, cook (her fried chicken and banana pudding were worthy of top chefs) dancing, playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Aubrey and Valker Key, one son, Charles R. Martin, and one granddaughter, Tonya R. Martin Benge. She is survived by one sister, Vennie Bumgarner, two daughters, Peggy Martin Tipton (Thomas) and Betty Martin McDaniel, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great- great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, and her special little baby dog, Cheeca. Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas, 75243 has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Funeral Services to honor Evelyn will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012, King Ryder Church of Christ, Hwy. 234, 3 1 1/2 miles West of Crossroads, Winthrop, Arkansas (Little River County). Burial will follow at Pauley Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Evelyn Rush to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Miami, Florida, 33136, or to the charity of your choice.
