Mary O'brien & Richard H. King
A long time ago, someone sent me an E-mail listing things that people of all ages had learned. For example, a 7-year old said: "I have learned that our dog doesn't want to eat my broccoli either". A 9-year old said: "I have learned that when you wave to people in the country, they stop what they are doing and wave back". A 49-year old said " I have learned that singing Amazing Grace can lift my spirits for hours". A 64-year old said: I have learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back". That is what Faye Fyffe did with her life! She was always giving back to her family and friends. She gave her friendship. She gave her smiling hospitality. She gave her wonderful cooking. She gave of herself constantly. She made friends easily and often – and never met a stranger. She loved to play cards and dominoes and she loved to win also. She loved to go to garage sales and taught me how to act at a garage sale. "Never pay the asked price for an item". We often went garage sale-ing on a Saturday and when we followed the signs to the house and then found that the garage door was closed and the sale was over – she would sit in their driveway and honk the horn for a long time – just to let them know how disappointed she was. One of the first fortune cookies I ever received said "God has given you one face and you make for yourselves another". That was NOT Faye Fyffe. When you were with Faye, you always saw the same person. She always put a warm smile on the face that God gave her and freely shared her delightful personality with everybody. I would look at her and think "That's how it should be done! That's how you should live your life". She was always genuine and full of fun. Richard and I feel honored and blessed a million times over to have been among the countless friends of Faye Nell Fyffe. I can hear DeWinn saying as she entered the gates of heaven "For crying in a bucket, Slim, what took you so long"?
