Florence Mason Goodwyn's Obituary
Florence Mason Goodwyn of Plano, Texas, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27th 2024 in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by her family. Florence was born on September 24th, 1930 in Woodsboro, Texas to Edward Mason Sr. and Hilda Schmidt Mason. She pursued a higher education at both Trinity University and The University of Houston, majoring in Arts and Sciences, where she met her future husband of 59 years, Wayne Allen Goodwyn. They moved around the U.S. for Wayne’s career, living in Maryland, Mississippi, and Louisiana - finally deciding to settle down in Texas in 1974. Florence had a passion for education and taught English and journalism for 15 years, inspiring a love for writing in countless middle and high school students. Florence is survived by her son Craig Mason Goodwyn and wife Denise, and daughter Gayle Lynn Goodwyn Gage and husband Edwin. Florence has four grandchildren - Seth and wife Caitlin, Jayson, Haley, and Ryan - and one great-grandchild, Hadley Jane. Florence was an avid quilter, sewing hundreds of pieces to be loved for generations to come. She also enjoyed attending sporting events - especially those of her grandkids and The Chicago Cubs. She was regularly found baking delicious meals and treats for friends and family and was a member of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. The family plans on holding a memorial to celebrate the life of Florence at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Meals on Wheels non-profit in Lubbock, Texas. Wayne and Florence dedicated 17 years to delivering meals to those less fortunate in the Dallas area and the family would love to see their work live on through this program.
